Dash is based on the leopard appaloosa I rode for about a year and a half. She was my riding instructor's horse, and I rode her the most out of all the horses I rode that belonged to my instructor. I miss having riding lessons, and I miss Dash. Even though she could be a brat sometimes. Her name is Dash for a reason. She is a fast little thing, and one time I experienced how fast she could really go without wanting to.
It was the third Saturday of the month, the day we always have competitions, and the second course of the day was barrel racing. I did gymkhana, so every competition there would be about 4 to 5 different courses. Often including barrel racing, pole bending, single barrel, trail, speed barrels, key hole, fox and hound, and some other courses.
The second course of the day was barrel racing. That day was just one of those days where all of the horses were acting up. A couple of riders either fell off or were thrown off. It was my turn, and like always my instructor told me to go at a walk. I listened and turned around the barrels at a walk, and after I turned around the third barrel my instructor said I could pick up to a slow trot. I did so, and within seconds we were at a full on gallop.
Dash did figure 8's around the cones that marked the start and finish as well as the timer. Due to Dash figure 8ing the cones, the time kept on resetting. Thankfully my mom got my real time and wrote it down. My mom was in charge of the times, points, and calling who was up next. There was also a couple of people who helped her.
I knew what to do, and that was hold on to the horn with my left hand, and pull the reins as hard as I could while everyone was yelling woah to Dash. Within about 5 minutes she stopped, and I was told to stay on her to calm down. Though within a few minutes I had to ger off her because there was another girl competing on Dash. My instructor and my mom told me that she bucked about 3 times, and I was shocked because I managed to stay on.
Even though that gave me a scare, the competition was not over yet. There were still 3 courses left, and I kept competing. You know the saying. If you fall off a horse, you have to get back in the saddle. Though, I didn't fall. I held on.
